About MHET

Celebrating 42 Years of Serving the Southern California Region

The organization focuses on educating the owners of mobile home parks and manufactured housing communities, mobile homes owners who live in rental parks and rental/land lease communities, and others about the mobile home park industry and issues.

The Manufactured Housing Educational Trust (MHET) was ahead of its time when the icons of the mobile home park industry banded together to form a local non-profit trade association to educate trailer and mobile home park owners, park residents, local elected officials and community leaders about the mobile home park industry in Orange County.

Forty-two years ago it was almost unheard of to refer to Orange County’s 213 mobile home parks as “manufactured housing communities” because there were many trailer courts and mobile home parks in the county.  However, MHET’s founders, led by their first President Ed Evans, had a vision for the industry.

MHET’s founders set out to change the image of mobile home parks and protect the rights of the property owners who owned the parks.  Mobile home park owners needed an advocate and MHET fit the bill!  The Board of Directors retained Vickie Talley as the organization’s Executive Director to help change the image of the industry.

In the mid 1990’s MHET expanded its service to include the Inland Empire counties of Riverside and San Bernardino – increasing the number of parks/communities it served from a little over 200 located in 28 cities to nearly 600 located in over 80 cities and three counties!

Advocacy

MHET is an advocate for the mobile home park industry and proponent for the protection of the property rights of mobile home park owners.

As a problem solving and solutions oriented association, MHET works closely with park owners, park residents and local government and volunteer groups and agencies to resolve issues when they arise.

Ongoing educational programs and publications for park owners, park residents and local elected officials provide important information on mobile home parks and the mobile home park lifestyle.

MHET services including a 24 hour hot line, a monthly newsletter for park residents, a dispute resolution program, and a rent subsidy program for qualified low-income mobile home owners are among the various resources offered to park owners and park residents.
