Millions of Americans suffer from health problems that severely restrict their diets. In an experiment to combat rising health care costs, California’s Governor launched CalAIM in 2022, a five-year initiative to deliver premade meals to those with restrictive diets due to medical concerns serving those in San Bernadino and Riverside counties. This program is part of the Inland Empire Health Plan; because of this, eligibility is determined by the plan on a case-by-case basis. For elderly diabetics who live alone or for those suffering from kidney disease who have limited mobility, having premade, tailor-made meals becomes a lifesaver. Not only does it make cooking and preparing healthy meals easier and more convenient, it also instills good habits regarding portion control, what food does works and doesn’t work for the individual, and healthier eating habits overall.
