With Halloween fast approaching, it’s a good time to discuss tips to keep trick-or-treating both safe and fun for everyone! These tips can help you to be prepared if you are going out trick-or-treating or if you plan to give candy out to neighbor-hood children.
Safety, comfort, and coolness can go hand-in-hand for trick-or-treaters. Costumes that are bright and reflective are a great way to improve visibility on Halloween night. Glow-in-the-dark elements can be incorporated easily into a costume and even make the costume more fun. Candy baskets, buckets, and bags can also receive this treatment via glowsticks or reflective tape.
Younger children should be accompanied by a parent or trusted adult. For older children who are capable of trick-or-treating on their own, parents should plan and review the route they expect on taking and establish what time to be home. Regardless of a child’s age, walking at night can have its own risks. Cross the street at designated cross-walks, stay on well-lit streets, and always use the sidewalk.
