In 2024, Easter Sunday will be observed on March 31. Easter tends to fall within the month of April with the last March Easter being 2016. But why is Easter intermittently in March?
Easter is a “movable feast” due to its date changing every year. Its date will always be the first Sunday following the Paschal Full Moon. To understand what this means, we must first understand what spring equinox is.
An equinox is when the Earth is positioned in such a way that the day and night are equal in duration (about twelve hours). The Paschal Full Moon is the first full moon after the spring equinox. The Spring Equinox this year falls on Tuesday, March 19, and the first full moon after this will be Monday, March 25. Thus, Easter Sunday will be celebrated on the last Sunday of March in 2024!
