Cleaning your gutters is an important task because clogged gutters can lead to leaks and damage your roof over time. Here are a few tips in order to accomplish this chore both safely and efficiently.
There are many tools you will need to clean your gutter. You will need a ladder to get up to the roof; a stabilizer will be able to prevent your ladder from slipping and should be used if possible. You should also have a bucket, gutter scoop, and garden hose to aid in this process. In addition to the tools you’ll be using to clean, be sure to have the appropriate protective gear such as heavy-duty gloves and safety glasses.
Once you have all the tools you will need, you can begin cleaning! Begin by scooping out leaves using the scoop and gloves. Deposit the debris into the bucket. Once all the debris is cleared away, use your garden hose to flush the gutter. Make sure that you do not accidentally spray any loose roofing. Also be sure to clean your roof of leaves as well so that your gutters don’t clog again too soon. ■
