Quotes for the Holiday Season

As the year comes to an end and the last of the holidays are fast approaching, it is important to be appreciative of the experiences we’ve had, look forward to the future, and be grateful for the time we get to spend with our loved ones during this time.  This year Christmas and Hanukkah are the same day, with the eight days of Hanukkah beginning at nightfall on December 25 and ending with nightfall on January 2, 2025.  A candle on the menorah each day.  Both holidays are celebrated with festivities, special food, and gifts.  Christmas trees are filled with gifts.  During Hanukkah it is customary to give all children money after the lighting of the nightly candle.

“Christmas is most truly Christmas when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it most.”

Ruth Carter Stapleton

“Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing but of reflection.”

Winston Churchill

“Mankind is a great, immense family. This is proved by what we feel in our hearts at Christmas.”

Pope John XXIII

“At this time of year, when the sun is most hidden, the holiday of Hanukkah celebrates the rays of hope and light. Often, it is through simple and un-recognized miracles that we are able to feel the warmth of hope and light.”

Rafael Goldstein

“Hanukkah is about the freedom to be true to what we believe without denying the freedom of those who believe otherwise. It’s about lighting our candle, while not being threatened by or threatening anyone else’s candle.”

Rabbi Jonathan Sacks

“The magic of Christmas never ends. Its greatest gifts are family and friends.”
